The Naked Gun to Debut on Paramount+ September 30
Paramount+ is bringing back one of comedy’s most iconic franchises with the post-theatrical streaming premiere of The Naked Gun on September 30 in the U.S. and Canada. The film debuted in theaters on August 1, 2025.
Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, The Naked Gun delivers a high-velocity barrage of gags and absurdity. This reboot stars Liam Neeson as Lt. Frank Drebin Jr., leading Police Squad in a wild, gut-busting adventure.
The cast also includes Pamela Anderson, Paul Walter Hauser, CCH Pounder, Kevin Durand, Cody Rhodes, Liza Koshy, Eddie Yu, and Danny Huston. The film is rated PG-13 for crude/sexual material, violence/bloody images, and brief partial nudity.
The Naked Gun was directed by Akiva Schaffer (Saturday Night Live, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping) and produced by Seth MacFarlane (Ted, Family Guy) and Erica Huggins. The comedy grossed $102.1 million at the global box office, with $52.6 million coming from North American theaters and $49.5 million from international markets.
The film is officially described as follows: “Only one man has the particular set of skills… to lead Police Squad and save the world! Lt. Frank Drebin Jr. (Liam Neeson) follows in his father’s footsteps in The Naked Gun.”
Paramount Pictures presented, in association with Domain Entertainment, a Fuzzy Door production. The movie was written by Dan Gregor, Doug Mand, and Akiva Schaffer.
The executive producers include Daniel M. Stillman, Akiva Schaffer, Pete Chiappetta, Anthony Tittanegro, and Andrew Lary. MacFarlane produces with Erica Huggins.
The movie serves as the fourth film installment in the franchise, which began with a TV series titled Police Squad! in 1982, starring Leslie Nielsen as Detective Sergeant Franklin “Frank” Drebin.
Nielsen would continue the role in the three movies, which included The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! (1988), The Naked Gun 2 1/2: The Smell of Fear (1991), and The Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult (1994).
The Naked Gun joins Paramount+‘s robust comedy lineup, including the original film series starring Nielsen, which saw an 84% lift in viewership during the reboot’s theatrical window. Fans can also stream hits from the Scary Movie, Jackass, and South Park franchises, plus a wide range of rom-coms, stand-up specials, and Comedy Central roasts.
