Netflix has released the official teaser for The Diplomat Season 3, which is coming to the streaming service this fall. See Bradley Whitford in action for the first time as he reunites with his The West Wing costar Allison Janney and joins Keri Russell, Rufus Sewell, and the rest of the cast as they navigate the state of the union.

In The Diplomat Season 3, Ambassador Kate Wyler (Keri Russell) lives the particular nightmare that is getting what you want. She just accused Vice President Grace Penn (Allison Janney) of hatching a terrorist plot and admitted she’s after the VP’s job.

But now the President is dead, Kate’s husband Hal (Rufus Sewell) may have inadvertently killed him, and Grace Penn is the leader of the free world. None of this slows Hal’s campaign to land Kate the vice presidency.

Kate steps into a role she never wanted, with a freedom she never expected, an increasingly complicated friendship with Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison (David Gyasi), and an unnerving bond with First Gentleman Todd Penn (Bradley Whitford, The Handmaid’s Tale Season 6).

The series is created by Debora Cahn, who returns to The Diplomat Season 3 as executive producer alongside Janice Wiliams, Keri Russell (Cocaine Bear), Alex Graves, Peter Noah, and Eli Attie. The Diplomat is a Golden Globe, Emmy, SAG, PGA, WGA, and CCA-nominated series that has received numerous additional accolades since its premiere in 2023.

“I was thrilled when I heard that Debora was interested in me doing something. I had no idea what it was. I love the show. I was jealous of the writing on this show,” said Bradley Whitford. “I love Keri. I love Rufus. And I hear Allison Janney is good at acting, too. It’s an amazing cast.”

The eight-episode third season also stars David Gyasi, Ali Ahn, Rory Kinnear, Ato Essandoh, Michael McKean, Nana Mensah, and Miguel Sandoval.

Season 1 of The Diplomat premiered on April 20, 2023, and immediately became Netflix‘s #1 most-viewed title during its first two weeks alone, reached the Top 10 in 87 countries, and garnered 173.46 million hours viewed in the four weeks following its premiere.
