Smurfs Trailer Featuring Rihanna as Smurfette
Paramount Animation has revealed the first trailer and the Super Bowl spot for Smurfs, which is coming to theaters on July 18, 2025. The film was written by Pam Brady (South Park, Team America) and directed by Chris Miller (Puss in Boots, Shrek the Third).

Based on the characters and works of Belgian artist Pierre Culliford, also known as Peyo, Smurfs is a Ty Ty and Jay Brown production. It is produced by Jay Brown, Ty Ty Smith, Robyn Rihanna Fenty and Ryan Harris.
Smurfs features an all-star voice cast including Rihanna, James Corden, Nick Offerman, JP Karliak, Daniel Levy, Amy Sedaris, Natasha Lyonne, Sandra Oh, Octavia Spencer, Nick Kroll, Hannah Waddingham, Alex Winter, Maya Erskine, Billie Lourd and Xolo Maridueña, with Kurt Russell and John Goodman.

Nickelodeon Animation and Paramount Pictures announced a creative partnership with LAFIG Belgium and IMPS (now known as the Peyo Company) in February 2022 to produce multiple feature films based on The Smurfs.
“Nickelodeon is the home to some of the world’s most popular family franchises, and we’re honored to add The Smurfs to that roster,” said Ramsey Naito, President of Animation for Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation. “We’re excited to tell a story that stays true to its origins, but with a Smurf-tastic musical twist that excites new audiences and builds on the Smurfs franchise and universe of wonderful characters and stories.”

Said Véronique Culliford, Founder & President of LAFIG and IMPS, “It is with great joy and pride that I welcome this new Smurfs film! I am truly excited with this wonderful partnership with the talented, creative and dynamic teams at Paramount Pictures, Nickelodeon Animation, and IMPS.
“I am convinced that this great collaboration will allow families around the world to immerse themselves in this unique universe of humor and extraordinary adventures.”
Culliford continued: “I have no doubt that my father, creator of these marvelous world-famous characters, would also be delighted with this continuation of his work. I look so forward to seeing audiences gather together in the near future to enjoy this new adventure of our beloved Smurfs!”
Sony Pictures previously acquired the Smurfs film rights and released their own live-action/CGI hybrid movie in 2011, followed by a sequel in 2013 and a fully animated film, Smurfs: The Lost Village, in 2017. The first film grossed $564 million globally, the second film earned $347.5 million and the third film made $197.2 million.
