HBO Max September 2025 Movie and TV Titles Announced
Warner Bros. Discovery has announced the movies, TV shows, and live sports that will be available on the HBO Max streaming service in September. The HBO Max September 2025 lineup includes the drama series Task, a comedy special from Caleb Hearon, and the documentaries Seen & Heard: The History of Black Television, The Devil Is Busy, and Prime Minister.
The schedule also includes the A24 films Friendship and Warfare, as well as more Studio Ghibli and GKIDS adult animated and live-action films.

FEATURED PROGRAMMING
SERIES
Task (HBO Original Drama Series)
Debuts September 7
The seven-episode season premieres on September 7, and episodes will debut weekly at 9:00 p.m. ET.
Set in the working-class suburbs of Philadelphia, an FBI agent (Mark Ruffalo) heads a Task Force to put an end to a string of violent robberies led by an unsuspecting family man (Tom Pelphrey). The cast includes Mark Ruffalo, Tom Pelphrey, Emilia Jones, Jamie McShane, Sam Keeley, Thuso Mbedu, Fabien Frankel, Alison Oliver, Raúl Castillo, Silvia Dionicio, Phoebe Fox, and Martha Plimpton.
Brad Ingelsby is the creator, writer, showrunner, and executive producer. Jeremiah Zagar and Salli Richardson-Whitfield are the directors and executive producers. The executive producers include Mark Roybal and Paul Lee for wiip, Mark Ruffalo, David Crockett, and Ron Schmidt. The co-executive producers include Nicole Jordan-Webber and Jeremy Yaches for Public Record.

Debuts in September
In his debut stand-up special, filmed in front of a sold-out crowd at Constellation in Chicago, Caleb Hearon showcases his ability to unpack life’s most absurd contradictions with his signature charm and razor-sharp wit.
The HBO original comedy special is performed, written, and executive produced by Caleb Hearon; executive produced by Dave Kneebone, Tovah Silbermann, Olivia Doud, and Janel Kranking; and directed by Sandy Honig.

DOCUMENTARIES
Seen & Heard: The History of Black Television (HBO Original Two-Part Documentary)
Part 1 debuts September 9 at 9:00 p.m. ET, followed by Part 2 airing the following day at the same time on HBO. Both parts will be available to stream on September 9 on HBO Max.
Seen & Heard takes audiences on a two-part journey through the history of Black representation on television, showcasing how Black artists and creators both shaped and revolutionized the medium while confronting the systemic challenges that have often undermined their contributions.
From early, stereotypical portrayals to today’s more authentic and complex narratives, the series highlights how Black television makers have not only survived but thrived, despite the industry’s early reluctance to fully recognize their power and creativity.
HBO Documentary Films presents Seen & Heard: The History of Black Television, an Ark Media Production in association with HOORAE Media. A film by Giselle Bailey; directed and produced by Giselle Bailey and Phil Bertelsen; and executive produced by Issa Rae, Montrel McKay, John Maggio, Rachel Dretzin, John Ealer, Jonathan Berry, and Dave Becky.

The Devil Is Busy (HBO Original Documentary Short)
Debuts September 23
The Devil Is Busy takes viewers behind the scenes of a women’s healthcare clinic in Atlanta, Georgia, as the employees, including Tracii, the head of security, carry out their daily work of securing the safety of their patients while providing medical services where clinics face daily threats of danger.

Prime Minister (HBO Original Documentary)
Debuts September 30
Going behind the scenes of her administration and her private life, Prime Minister follows Jacinda Arden, New Zealand’s 40th Prime Minister, over seven years as she is catapulted to the top of New Zealand politics, becomes a global political icon, resigns from office, and continues to champion the fight against isolationism, fear, and the distortion of truth.
Intimate home footage shot by her husband and audio interviews from her time in office give viewers unparalleled access and an unfiltered window into her years in power.

Warfare (A24 Film)
Debuts September 12
Written and directed by Iraq War veteran Ray Mendoza and Alex Garland (Civil War, 28 Days Later), Warfare embeds audiences with a platoon of American Navy SEALs on a surveillance mission gone wrong in insurgent territory. A visceral, boots-on-the-ground story of modern warfare and brotherhood, told like never before: in real time and based on the memory of the people who lived it.
