Greenland Sequel to Open in Theaters in January 2026
Lionsgate has announced that Greenland 2: Migration, starring Gerard Butler, will be released in theaters on January 9, 2026. Lionsgate’s Mutiny, which was previously set for January 9, will now release in Summer 2026.
In the aftermath of a comet strike that decimated most of the Earth, Greenland 2: Migration follows the Garrity family (Gerard Butler, Morena Baccarin, and Roman Griffith Davis) as they’re forced to leave the safety of their bunker in Greenland to traverse a shattered world in search of a new home.

Starring Gerard Butler, Morena Baccarin, Roman Griffin Davis, Amber Rose Revah, Sophie Thompson, Trond Fausa Aurvåg, and William Abadie, Greenland 2: Migration is directed by Ric Roman Waugh.
The film was written by Mitchell LaFortune and Chris Sparling, and produced by Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, Gerard Butler, Alan Siegel, Sébastien Raybaud, John Zois, Brendon Boyea, and Ric Roman Waugh.

Greenland 2: Migration is produced by Anton, STX Entertainment, Thunder Road Pictures, and G-base Entertainment, and is a sequel to the hit Greenland (read our review), which was distributed theatrically via STX and its international partners in the summer of 2020, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Despite the pandemic, the film opened at #1 at the box office in 26 countries, including Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and Russia, grossing more than $52 million internationally. In the United States, the film was a huge performing title on Premium Video on Demand (PVOD) before its successful run on HBO Max.

While the sequel has not yet been rated by the Motion Picture Association (MPA), the first film was rated PG-13 for intense sequences of disaster action, some violence, bloody images, and brief strong language.
Produced for about $35 million, the original was released domestically by STXfilms through PVOD on December 18, 2020, and then to streaming on HBO Max. The international rollout of the film began in Belgium on July 29, 2020.
