TRON: Ares is the highly anticipated third installment in the TRON franchise and follows a highly sophisticated Program, Ares, who is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind’s first encounter with A.I. beings.

The film is a follow-up to Disney’s 1982 seminal science fiction film TRON and the 2010 sequel, TRON: Legacy. Released in December 2010, Legacy grossed $409.9 million worldwide, with $172.1 million coming from North American theaters and $237.8 million from international markets.

Sean Bailey, Jeffrey Silver, Justin Springer, Jared Leto, Emma Ludbrook, and Steven Lisberger are the producers, with Russell Allen serving as executive producer. The film started production in January 2024 in Vancouver and wrapped production in May of that year.

TRON: Ares (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack), featuring all original music by Nine Inch Nails, will be released on September 19 via Interscope Records. Nine Inch Nails yesterday unveiled the official music video for their new single, “As Alive As You Need Me To Be,” the first song to be released from the soundtrack and the first official new music from the band in five years.

The release marks the first-ever film score by the pioneering band, although bandmates Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have composed 20 scores under their own names, winning two Oscars, three Golden Globes, a GRAMMY, and an Emmy in the process.
