The film is a follow-up to Disney’s 1982 seminal science fiction film TRON and the 2010 sequel, TRON: Legacy. Released in December 2010, Legacy grossed $409.9 million worldwide, with $172.1 million coming from North American theaters and $237.8 million from international markets.

The feature film is directed by Joachim Rønning and stars Jared Leto, Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, and Cameron Monaghan, with Gillian Anderson and Jeff Bridges.

Nine Inch Nails is providing the score for the film, marking the first time Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have composed a film score under the name of their band, instead of their own names.

“I’m excited to be part of the TRON franchise and bring this new film to fans around the world,” Joachim Rønning said previously. “TRON: Ares builds upon the legacy of cutting-edge design, technology, and storytelling. Now more than ever, it feels like the right time to return to the Grid.”
