Girls Like Girls Trailer and Poster Unveiled
Focus Features has released the official trailer and poster for Girls Like Girls, the coming-of-age romance film opening in theaters on June 19. The film has not yet been rated by the Motion Picture Association (MPA).
Based on writer/director Hayley Kiyoko’s hit single and best-selling novel of the same name and featuring all-new music from Kiyoko, Girls Like Girls is a heartfelt story set over the course of one sun-drenched summer, where new-girl-in-town Coley falls in love for the first time while learning to accept herself along the way.

The film marks Kiyoko’s feature directorial and screenwriting debut. Principal photography took place in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada, from July 3, 2024, to August 2, 2024.
Directed by Kiyoko from a script by Kiyoko and Stefanie Scott, the film stars Maya da Costa, Myra Molloy, Levon Hawke, and Zach Braff. The story was by Kiyoko and Chloe Okuno.
The producers include Marc Platt, Adam Siegel, Michael Philip, Jason Moring, Richard Alan Reid, Katie McNicol, and Dee Best.
Hayley Kiyoko has appeared in several films, including Lemonade Mouth (2011), Insidious: Chapter 3 (2015), Jem and the Holograms (2015), and XOXO (2016). She also had recurring roles in the TV series Wizards of Waverly Place (2010) and The Fosters (2014) and lead roles in CSI: Cyber (2015–2016) and Five Points (2018–2019).
The book, which is a continuation of Kiyoko’s 2015 song, is officially described as follows: “It’s summertime and 17-year-old Coley has found herself alone, again. Forced to move to rural Oregon after just losing her mother, she is in no position to risk her already fragile heart. But when she meets Sonya, the attraction is immediate.
“Coley worries she isn’t worthy of love. Up until now, everyone she’s loved has left her. And Sonya’s never been with a girl before. What if she’s too afraid to show up for Coley? What if by opening her heart, Coley’s risking it all?
“They both realize that when things are pushed down, and feelings are forced to shrivel away, Coley and Sonya will be the ones to shrink. It’s not until they accept the love they fear and deserve most, that suddenly the song makes sense.
“Based on the billboard-charting smash hit song and viral music video Girls Like Girls, Hayley Kiyoko’s debut novel is about embracing your truth and realizing we are all worthy of being loved back.”
