The cast includes Richard Madden, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Marcia Gay Harden, JD Pardo, Bruce Greenwood, Robert Wisdom, Kirk Acevedo, Ben Cotton, James Remar, Jason Ralph, and Mark O’Brien.

The executive producers of the 20th Television series include Bradley Gardner, Wendy Mericle, and Jimmy Mulville for HTM Television.

Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Commander Katherine Decker

Mbatha-Raw stars as Commander Katherine Decker, second-in-command aboard the USS Kansas, a nuclear submarine. When she develops an unlikely bond with Secretary of Defense Webb Preston (Madden), she finds herself drawn into dangerous machinations surrounding a top-secret program code-named Trinity.

“One line that sums up Commander Katherine Decker is ‘The boat comes first,’” Mercurio told the Netflix blog Tudum, but her feelings for Webb change everything. “An unexpected complication for Katherine is a personal connection stoked by Webb’s idealism. As she gets closer to the truth, Katherine finds herself caught between supporting Webb’s strategy to prevent World War III and exposing his secret agenda.”

Richard Madden as Secretary of Defense Webb Preston

“[She] comes to fear that the US secretary of defense is either the savior of world peace or its greatest threat,” Mercurio teased. He added, “I love watching thrillers as much as I enjoy making them. One of my all-time favorites is No Way Out. I wanted to create an action thriller set around the Pentagon with a high-stakes conspiracy to challenge a heroic naval officer.”

Nuclear submarines also gave Mercurio a particularly perilous and very cool world to work with. “The ballistic nuclear submarines in the US Navy are the most powerful weapons ever created. They can hide in the ocean depths undetected for months and carry the firepower to wipe out entire countries. There’s no deadlier or more claustrophobic setting for a thriller.”

Marcia Gay Harden (So Help Me Todd) portrays Margaret Vandenburg. The CEO and matriarch of the Vandenburg business empire, she’s been instrumental in her prominent family amassing significant political ties. JD Pardo (Mayans M.C., High Potential) is Tom Reyes, a lieutenant commander in the US Navy.
