The Blue Eye Samurai Season 2 cast includes Maya Erskine as Mizu, Brenda Song as Akemi, Darren Barnet as Taigen, and Masi Oka as Ringo. Michael Green and Amber Noizumi are the creators, executive producers, and writers.

When we last saw Mizu (Erskine, Wildwood), Blue Eye Samurai’s mixed-race master of the sword, she was sailing toward London to search for the two remaining men who might be her father. That’s exactly where we’ll pick up in Season 2 of the Emmy Award–winning animated series.

“London in 1657 had a thriving culture of illicit activity, something that fittingly parallels our story of Japan,” Michael Green and Amber Noizumi told Netflix’s Tudum.

“Mizu will have to navigate this dark underbelly amid a puritanical society that persecuted women as witches, closed bars and theaters, and even outlawed Christmas. If you know Mizu, she doesn’t take too kindly to repression, especially if it stands in the way of her revenge.”

They added, “For the first time, she’ll have to confront what it’s like to stand out as Asian in a sea of white faces. And then find out what it means to be a woman during one of the most oppressive times in English history. Mizu is such a force of nature — we’re taking a volatile element and dropping it into an unstable equilibrium, and then waiting for a chain reaction.”

It took a three-year effort to bring Season 2 to fruition, and Noizumi and Green acknowledged that there was a bit of a wait for new episodes.

“First, we want to thank all of our viewers for waiting. Your enthusiasm is what energized us and helped us get here,” the duo said. “Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither were 17th-century London or Edo Japan. The care that every single member of our team poured into researching those worlds, then crafting them brushstroke by brushstroke into breathtaking, moving art is nothing short of a miracle to us.”

The new cast members for Blue Eye Samurai Season 2 include Jonathan Pryce (Slow Horses, The Crown) as Old Violet, Joel Kim Booster (Fire Island, KPop Demon Hunters) as Priest Ando, and Sherry Cola (Good Trouble, Joy Ride) as Kuma.

Blue Spirit is the animation studio behind the Edo-period epic, which will end with a third season in 2028. “From our first episode, we knew how Mizu’s journey would eventually end — we just never knew whether we’d be lucky enough to have the chance to get her there. Well, we got lucky!” Noizumi and Green explained.

“The audience showed up for Mizu. Having worked in TV a long time, we can tell you, to finish your story as planned is a rare privilege and a career highlight.”
