Netflix has released the teaser trailer and poster for Woman of the Hour, which marks Anna Kendrick’s directorial debut and will launch on October 18, 2024.
The period crime thriller has been rated R by the MPA for language, violent content, some drug use, and a sexual reference.
Woman of the Hour is the stranger-than-fiction story of an aspiring actress in 1970s Los Angeles and a serial killer in the midst of a yearslong murder spree, whose lives intersect when they’re cast on an episode of “The Dating Game.”
The cast includes Anna Kendrick, Daniel Zovatto, Tony Hale, Nicolette Robinson, Pete Holmes, Autumn Best, Kathryn Gallagher, and Kelley Jakle.
Written by Ian McDonald, the movie was produced by Roy Lee, Miri Yoon, J.D. Lifshitz, and Raphael Margules. The co-producers are Lorelle Lynch, Chris Abernathy, and Tracy Rosenblum.
The executive producers include Stuart Ford, Zach Garrett, Miguel A. Palos, Jr., Anna Kendrick, Ian Mcdonald, Joe Penna, Matthew Helderman, Luke Taylor, Paul Barbeau, Sean Patrick O’Reilly, Andrew Deane, and Stephen Crawford.
In December 2017, Ian McDonald’s script for the film was featured on the Black List, an annual survey of the most popular scripts yet to be produced. Filming took place in Vancouver from October to December 2022.
Woman of the Hour premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2023, but Kendrick and the cast were unable to attend due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike. Shortly after, Netflix reacquired distribution rights to the U.S. and some international territories for $11 million.
