The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping Teaser and Poster Drop
One year from the film’s 2026 release, Lionsgate has released a surprise teaser trailer, teaser poster, and first-look photos for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’s book will be released on November 20, 2026.
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping revisits the world of Panem and follows young Haymitch Abernathy (Joseph Zada) twenty-four years before the events of The Hunger Games, starting on the morning of the reaping of the Fiftieth Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell.
Francis Lawrence will direct from a screenplay adaptation by Billy Ray. Color Force’s Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson will produce. Cameron MacConomy will executive produce. The five films in the franchise have taken in over $3.3 billion at the box office.
Sunrise on the Reaping sold 1.5 million copies in its first week on sale in the U.S., U.K., Ireland, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. The 1.2 million copies sold in the U.S. are twice the first week sales of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and three times the first week sales of Mockingjay.
The cast includes Joseph Zada, Jesse Plemons, Ralph Fiennes, Glenn Close, Kieran Culkin, Elle Fanning, Mckenna Grace, Maya Hawke, Whitney Peak, and Kelvin Harrison Jr.
Francis Lawrence has helmed four previous films in The Hunger Games franchise – every film since Catching Fire. Meredith Wieck and Scott O’Brien are overseeing the production on behalf of the studio. Patricia Laucella and Phil Strina oversaw the book’s rights for Lionsgate.
There are more than 100 million copies of all four books in The Hunger Games series in print and digital formats worldwide, and foreign publishing rights have been sold in 54 languages.
Lionsgate has adapted these best-selling books into five feature films that have collectively grossed more than $3.3 billion worldwide.
The movies have boasted star-studded casts, including Academy Award winner Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Academy Award nominee Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Lenny Kravitz, Stanley Tucci, Donald Sutherland, Rachel Zegler, Tom Blyth, Viola Davis, Jason Schwartzman, and Peter Dinklage.
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping has not yet been rated by the Motion Picture Association (MPA).
