Shrek 5 Release Date Set for June 2027
Universal Pictures has moved back the release date for DreamWorks Animation’s Shrek 5 from December 23, 2026, to Wednesday, June 30, 2027. Before the December 2026 date, the fifth installment was previously scheduled for a July 1, 2026, release.
It’s worth noting that the new release date is just five days after Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse on June 25, 2027. Universal’s release of Illumination’s The Untitled Illumination Event Film will also move from June 30, 2027, to Friday, April 16, 2027, taking the place of another untitled Universal event film.

DreamWorks Animation invites audiences back to a land Far, Far Away for a thrilling new adventure in one of the most beloved global animated franchises of all time: Shrek 5.
Comedy legends Mike Myers (Austin Powers films, Bohemian Rhapsody), Oscar nominee Eddie Murphy (Beverly Hills Cop franchise, Dreamgirls), and Cameron Diaz (Charlie’s Angels franchise, Bad Teacher) return to their signature roles as Shrek, Donkey, and Fiona, and will be joined by Zendaya.

Acclaimed filmmakers and Shrek franchise veterans Conrad Vernon and Walt Dohrn will direct Shrek 5. Vernon’s directing credits include Shrek 2 and Madagascar 2, and he is the voice of Gingerbread Man (aka Gingy). Dorhn (Trolls franchise) worked on the second and third Shrek films as a writer and artist and as Head of Story on the fourth film. Dohrn also voiced the character of Rumpelstiltskin in Shrek Forever After.
The film will be produced by returning producer Gina Shay (Trolls franchise), who produced Shrek Forever After, and by Illumination CEO and Academy Award nominee Chris Meledandri (Despicable Me and Minions franchise, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Sing, and Secret Life of Pets films). The film will be co-directed by Brad Ableson (Minions: The Rise of Gru, The Simpsons).
