Predator v Prey Series Coming to BBC America and AMC+

The all-new natural history series Predator v Prey will premiere on Saturday, April 20, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on BBC America and AMC+. Narrated by actor Howard Charles (Whitstable Pearl, Top Boy) and using innovative VFX techniques, the series offers a forensic look at the hunts of the world’s most formidable apex predators.

Predator v Prey follows the fortunes of the world’s most formidable apex predators—including lions, cheetahs, and crocodiles—as they pit themselves against fearsome opponents in the ultimate battle for survival.

Focusing on their high-stakes hunts and the multitude of factors that contribute to their success or failure, the series offers a forensic look at these predation events while exploring the many other challenges the animals face in the game of life.

From the changing seasons to shared food sources, the significance of making a kill is brought into sharp focus as predator and prey face off in some of nature’s most compelling showdowns.

Each episode combines premium specialist archive footage and new VFX techniques. It features a different species and reveals ‘moment by moment’ the predatory features that are essential to survival within their world as they take on their worthy adversaries.

To bring to life these predator-prey interactions, a new 3D graphics game engine freezes and manipulates key instants within these killer moments to reveal the art of the hunt and the secrets of the kill. Exploring hidden perspectives, biology, and behavior, all based on the latest scientific research, the engine provides an immersive, analytical, and comprehensive view of life as a top predator in the most dramatic of ways.

Predator v Prey reveals brand new perspectives and insights into the animal kingdom’s most prolific and iconic hunts, giving the viewer a front-row seat on what factors ultimately determine life or death.

True to Nature produces Predator v Prey for National Geographic in association with ITV Studios. Wendy Darke and Sarah Peat executive produce the show for National Geographic, and Adam Oldroyd serves as series producer.

Episode 1 – “Lion” – Premieres Saturday, April 20 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on BBC AMERICA; available to stream on AMC+
A forensic look at how lions hunt large prey like buffalo and zebra, offering new perspectives on the way these predators stalk, chase, and kill using an innovative new 3D-graphics game engine to freeze and manipulate key instants to reveal ‘moment by moment’ the predatory features that are essential to survival within the lions’ world as they take on their adversaries.

Here, a lone lioness relies on cunning to feed her newborn cubs, while a fearless pride tries to take down the biggest prey of all, a giant African elephant.

Episode 2 – “Cheetah” – Premieres Saturday, April 27 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on BBC AMERICA; available to stream on AMC+
A forensic look at how cheetahs hunt lechwe, impala, and wildebeest, offering new perspectives on the way these predators stalk, chase, and kill using an innovative new 3D-graphics game engine to freeze and manipulate key instants to reveal ‘moment by moment’ the predatory features that are essential to survival within the cheetahs’ world as they take on their adversaries.

Here, an experienced single mother faces the challenge of operating alone, protecting her young while maintaining a prolific and ruthless hunt strategy to keep her energy levels vitally topped up. A newly formed male coalition works together to take down a wildebeest in the ultimate battle of predator versus prey.

Episode 3 – “Crocodile” – Premieres Saturday, May 4 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on BBC AMERICA; available to stream on AMC+
This is a forensic look at how crocodiles target their prey, offering new perspectives on how they use their ambush strategies and physiological attributes to their advantage. Using an innovative new 3D graphics game engine to freeze and manipulate key instants, we reveal ‘moment by moment’ the predatory features that are essential to survival within the crocodiles’ world.

The narrative follows a dominant male as he tries to profit from the annual crossing of migratory herds of wildebeest and zebra while smaller males try to prove their worth within the crocodile hierarchy. The females go on the hunt for a mate.
