Endurance Media has unveiled the official trailer and poster for the Afterburn movie, based on the Red 5 Comics title of the same name. The film has been rated R by the Motion Picture Association (MPA) for strong bloody violence, and language.

Coming to limited theaters on August 22, 2025, the Afterburn movie stars Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy and Dune films), Samuel L. Jackson (Marvel Studios franchise), Olga Kurylenko (Quantum of Solace, Black Widow), and Kristofer Hivju (Game of Thrones).

The film is directed by J.J. Perry, who helmed Lionsgate’s The Killer’s Game, also starring Bautista. Afterburn is adapted for the screen by Matthew Johnson and Nimrod Antal.

The action-adventure is produced by Neal H. Moritz (Fast and Furious franchise) and Toby Jaffe (Total Recall) for Original Film, and Steve Richards (RocknRolla, Unknown) for Endurance Media. Bautista also produces for Dogbone Entertainment, along with Jonathan Meisner (Master Z: The Ip Man Legacy) and Chris Milburn (Strangers).

In the film, ten years after a solar flare wiped out technology worldwide, ex-soldier Jake (Bautista) works as a treasure hunter, recovering valuable objects from the Old World for powerful clients. His latest mission: team up with freedom fighter Drea (Kurylenko) to recover the Mona Lisa before an unhinged warlord gets there first.

Before transitioning to directing, J.J. Perry was widely regarded as one of the most skilled second-unit directors and stunt coordinators in the business, regularly collaborating with directors such as Ang Lee, Chad Stahelski, Justin Lin, and Spike Lee.

This led to Perry’s 2022 directorial debut, Day Shift, a Netflix action comedy starring Academy Award winner Jamie Foxx, Dave Franco, and Snoop Dogg. Perry’s second feature, The Killer’s Game, was released by Lionsgate in September 2024.
