Bo Bragason and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth to Star in The Legend of Zelda

Nintendo has officially announced that The Legend of Zelda movie will star English actress Bo Bragason as Zelda and British actor Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link. Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto made the announcement today.

“I am pleased to announce that for the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda, Zelda will be played by Bo Bragason-san, and Link by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth-san. I am very much looking forward to seeing both of them on the big screen,” he said. “The film is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 7, 2027. Thank you for your patience.”

Bo Bragason is known for her roles in the BBC One series Three Girls (2017) and The Jetty (2024), as well as the Disney+ series Renegade Nell (2024). She also starred in the British comedy horror film The Radleys (2024).

Benjamin Evan Ainsworth is known for portraying Miles in the Netflix series The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020), William in Disney’s Flora & Ulysses (2021), and the voice of Pinocchio in Disney’s live-action remake. He also starred in the CBC series Son of a Critch.

The Legend of Zelda film will be produced by Shigeru Miyamoto, Representative Director and Fellow of Nintendo, and Avi Arad, Chairman of Arad Productions Inc.

The movie will be produced by Nintendo and Arad Productions Inc. and directed by Wes Ball. Ball’s credits include The Maze Runner film trilogy and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.

The Legend of Zelda movie will be co-financed by Nintendo and Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc., with Nintendo providing more than 50% of the financing. Sony Pictures Entertainment will distribute the film to theaters.

“By producing visual content of Nintendo IP by itself, Nintendo is creating new opportunities to have people from around the world to access the world of entertainment which Nintendo has built, through different means apart from its dedicated game consoles,” said Nintendo when the film was first announced.

The company added, “By getting deeply involved in the movie production with the aim to put smiles on everyone’s faces through entertainment, Nintendo will continue its efforts to produce unique entertainment and deliver it to as many people as possible.”

Nintendo previously teamed up with Illumination Entertainment and Universal Pictures on The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which grossed an impressive $1.360 billion at the global box office. It earned $574.9 million at North American theaters and $785.9 million at international markets.
