Yoshi Unveiled in Super Mario Galaxy Movie First Look

Illumination and Nintendo have unveiled a first look at Yoshi in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which will now be released in the U.S. and many additional markets globally on Wednesday, April 1, 2026. The film will be released in Japan on April 24, with select territories releasing throughout April.

As you can see in the new video and poster, Yoshi joins the adventure in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. The reveal was part of today’s Nintendo Direct presentation.

Yoshi Unveiled in Super Mario Galaxy Movie First Look

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is an animated film based on the world of Super Mario Bros., and follows The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which was released in 2023 and earned more than $1.3 billion worldwide.

Both the 2023 film and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are produced by Chris Meledandri of Illumination and Shigeru Miyamoto of Nintendo. The film is co-financed by Universal Pictures and Nintendo and will be released worldwide by Universal Pictures.

Princess Peach and Mario

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is directed by returning filmmakers Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, from a screenplay by returning screenwriter Matthew Fogel, with Brian Tyler returning to compose the score.

The film stars Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr., Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, and Brie Larson as Rosalina.

The new movie has been rated PG by the Motion Picture Association (MPA) for action, mild violence, and rude humor. The first film was rated PG for action and mild violence.

The highly anticipated film was previously set for a worldwide release on April 3, 2026.
