Wayward is a thriller set in a bucolic but sinister town that explores the insidious underbelly of the “troubled teen industry” and the eternal struggle between one generation and the next.

Martin is looking forward to introducing viewers to the Wayward series. “We are deep in the bizarre world of Wayward, and I am so excited to show everyone what we’ve been making — what a cast!” they told Tudum. “I hope this show ignites the rebellious teenagers that exist in all of us. And, most importantly, let’s acknowledge that my hair is now several shades darker than previously, indicating that I am now, in fact, a serious actor.”

Ryan Scott is co-showrunner and executive producer of the series alongside Martin. Euros Lyn (Heartstopper, Doctor Who) has joined Wayward as a director and executive producer. He said, “Directing a stellar ensemble featuring Toni Collette, Sarah Gadon, and Mae Martin is a dream come true. I’m excited to bring this original blend of thriller, comedy, and horror to life and to shed light on the troubled teen industry.”

The eight-episode series comes from production company Sphere Media. Renuka Jeyapalan and John Fawcett also direct. The executive producers include Ben Farrell, Hannah Mackay, Jennifer Kawaja, and Bruno Dubé.
