The Altruists Trailer with Anthony Boyle and Julia Garner
Netflix has released the official trailer for The Altruists, an eight-episode limited series about Sam Bankman-Fried and Caroline Ellison. The series will premiere on Netflix on November 19.
The series stars Anthony Boyle (House of Guinness, Say Nothing) and Julia Garner (Ozark, The Fantastic Four: First Steps) as Bankman-Fried and Ellison, two hyper-smart, ambitious young idealists who tried to remake the global financial system in the blink of an eye – before they were accused of stealing $8 billion.
“I genuinely believe that both Sam and Caroline were deeply committed altruists from day one, who set out to do as much good for as many people as they could in their lives,” said creator, writer, co-showrunner, and executive producer Graham Moore.
“Over the course of the years that our show depicts, Sam and Caroline, with the very best of intentions, talked each other and themselves into committing a number of terrible crimes.”
The Altruists‘ regular cast includes Julia Garner (Caroline Ellison), Anthony Boyle (Sam Bankman-Fried), Alex Lawther (Sam Trabucco), Karan Soni (Nishad Singh), Naomi Okada (Claire Watanabe), Madison Hu (Constance Wang), Matt Rife (Ryan Salame), and Eugene Young (Gary Wang).
The additional cast includes Paul Reiser (Joe Bankman), Robin Weigert (Barbara Fried), Maddie Hasson (Lauren Remington Platt), Marianna Phung (Lily Zhang), Jennifer Grey (Sara Fisher Ellison), Terry Chen (CZ), and William Mapother (Dr. George Lerner).
Jack Greenlees (Will MacAskill), Hudson Williams (Duncan Rheingans-Yoo), Elizabeth Adams (Hannah Miller), Hannah Galway (Lucy), Donald Heng (Hot Steve), David James Lewis (Bill), and Jasmine Lukuku (Valerie) round out the cast.
The directors include James Ponsoldt (101), Kyle Patrick Alvarez (102, 103), Mairzee Almas (104, 105), Graham Moore (106), and Silver Tree (107, 108).
The executive producers are Graham Moore, Jacqueline Hoyt, Barack and Michelle Obama, Jessie Dicovitsky, and Vinnie Malhotra for Higher Ground Productions; Scoop Wasserstein for New York Magazine/Vox Media Studios; and Tonia Davis, James Ponsoldt, Lauren Morelli, and Julia Garner.
The Altruists was inspired by New York Magazine articles written by Kevin T. Dugan and Jen Wieczner.
