Subzero Film Entertainment was established in 2012 by producer Petri Jokiranta and director Jalmari Helander after the success of their previous film, Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale. Under their Subzero banner, Jokiranta and Helander will concentrate on developing high-concept genre projects, mainly for Helander to direct and Subzero to produce.

Big Game (2015) by Jalmari Helander, with a cast including Samuel L. Jackson and Jim Broadbent, was the first film produced under the Subzero banner. The latest film, Sisu (2022) by Jalmari Helander, was a critical and commercial success. It opened in the top 10 in US theaters and was released worldwide.
