Netflix has revealed the official trailer for Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire, opening in 70mm theaters on December 15 in Los Angeles, New York, Toronto and London. The film will then hit the streaming service on December 22.
From Zack Snyder, Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire will be followed by Part Two: The Scargiver, coming to Netflix on April 19, 2024.
Snyder is the filmmaker behind such movies as Dawn of the Dead, 300, Watchmen, Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League, and Army of the Dead.
In Rebel Moon, when a peaceful colony on the edge of a galaxy finds itself threatened by the armies of a tyrannical ruling force, Kora (Sofia Boutella), a mysterious stranger living among the villagers, becomes their best hope for survival.
Tasked with finding trained fighters who will unite with her in making an impossible stand against the Mother World, Kora assembles a small band of warriors – outsiders, insurgents, peasants and orphans of war from different worlds who share a common need for redemption and revenge.
As the shadow of an entire Realm bears down on the unlikeliest of moons, a battle over the fate of a galaxy is waged, and in the process, a new army of heroes is formed.
In addition to Sofia Boutella, the cast includes Djimon Hounsou, Ed Skrein, Michiel Huisman, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, with Charlie Hunnam and Anthony Hopkins as the voice of “Jimmy.”
Also starring are Staz Nair, Fra Fee, Cleopatra Coleman, Stuart Martin, Ingvar Eggert Sigurðsson, Alfonso Herrera, Cary Elwes, Rhian Rees, E. Duffy, Jena Malone, Sky Yang, Charlotte Maggi, and Corey Stoll.
Directed by Zack Snyder, the two-part Rebel Moon is written by Snyder, Shay Hatten and Kurt Johnstad. The story was written by Snyder and Johnstad.
The producers of the film are Deborah Snyder, Wesley Coller and Zack Snyder for The Stone Quarry; and Eric Newman for Grand Electric. The executive producers are Bergen Swanson, Sarah Bowen, Shay Hatten, and Kurt Johnstad.
Rebel Moon is the first feature to fall under the first look partnership between The Stone Quarry Productions, a production company founded by Zack and Deborah Snyder and their producing partner Wesley Coller, and Netflix.
It continues Netflix’s relationship with the Snyders and Stone Quarry who produced zombie thriller Army of the Dead, helmed by Snyder, and prequel Army of Thieves.
They are also producing anime spinoff Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas and Norse mythology series Twilight of the Gods.
