Mortal Kombat II Tickets Go on Sale as New Promos Hit
New Line Cinema has announced that Mortal Kombat II tickets have gone on sale with a new trailer and IMAX poster. Opening in theaters on May 8, the sequel has been rated R for strong bloody violence and gore, and language. Tickets for early IMAX fan event screenings on May 6 are also available.
Mortal Kombat II is the first installment in the franchise to be Filmed For IMAX. Director Simon McQuoid collaborated closely with IMAX, including demos during pre-production, and made specific creative and technical decisions to deliver a movie designed for The IMAX Experience.

Shot with IMAX-certified digital cameras, Mortal Kombat II places audiences right into the fight. Every clash, every weapon, every arena is rendered with jaw-dropping scale, razor-sharp detail, and the kind of immersive power only IMAX can deliver.
Featuring 45 minutes of IMAX’s exclusive 1.90:1 Expanded Aspect Ratio, Mortal Kombat II delivers the most visually intense and immersive Mortal Kombat yet. The film’s largest and most explosive action sequences are specially captured in IMAX’s EAR, giving fans unprecedented scale and detail.

With a custom sound mix tailored to IMAX’s acoustician-designed sound system, featuring the industry’s largest speakers, laser-aligned for pinpoint audio precision, Mortal Kombat II in IMAX brings the martial arts spectacle to life like never before. From hard-hitting blows to the earth-shaking roar of Outworld’s arenas, every detail is delivered with unparalleled realism, no matter where you sit.
Enhanced frame-by-frame using IMAX’s proprietary Digital Media Remastering (DMR) technology, Mortal Kombat II delivers unprecedented detail, clarity, and color. Watching it in IMAX is the only way to experience this cinematic battle exactly as director Simon McQuoid intended: with IMAX’s exclusive Expanded Aspect Ratio putting you right in the middle of the film’s biggest fights.

In Mortal Kombat II, the fan favorite champions—now joined by Johnny Cage himself—are pitted against one another in the ultimate, no-holds-barred, gory battle to defeat the dark rule of Shao Kahn that threatens the very existence of the Earthrealm and its defenders.
Karl Urban stars as Johnny Cage, alongside Adeline Rudolph, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Ludi Lin, Mehcad Brooks, Tati Gabrielle, Lewis Tan, Damon Herriman, with Chin Han, Tadanobu Asano as Lord Raiden, Joe Taslim as Bi-Han, and Hiroyuki Sanada as Hanzo Hasashi and Scorpion.

Director Simon McQuoid returns to helm the follow-up to his explosive 2021 cinematic adventure, from a screenplay by Jeremy Slater, based on the video game created by Ed Boon and John Tobias.
The film is produced by Todd Garner, James Wan, Toby Emmerich, E. Bennett Walsh, and McQuoid, and executive produced by Michael Clear, Judson Scott, Slater, and Lawrence Kasanoff.

Joining McQuoid behind the camera are director of photography Stephen F. Windon, production designer Yohei Taneda, editor Stuart Levy, and costume designer Cappi Ireland, with casting by Rich Delia and music by Benjamin Wallfisch.
New Line Cinema is presenting an Atomic Monster/Broken Road Production and a Fireside Films Production. The film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures in theaters and IMAX across North America on May 8, 2026, and internationally beginning on May 6. Tickets are available at Fandango and wherever tickets are sold.
