Mr. Monk’s Last Case: A Monk Movie Announced

Peacock has announced the premiere date for Mr. Monk’s Last Case: A Monk Movie, featuring the return of Tony Shalhoub to his iconic role. The announcement coincides with Shalhoub’s 70th birthday today.

Starring and executive produced by Shalhoub, Mr. Monk’s Last Case: A Monk Movie will debut on Peacock December 8, 2023. You can view the first photos by scrolling down.

Shalhoub will reunite with original series stars Ted Levine (On Becoming a God in Central Florida, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom), Traylor Howard (Monk, Boston Common), Jason Gray-Stanford (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, The Painter), Melora Hardin (The Office, Transparent) and Hector Elizondo (Pretty Woman, Chicago Hope).

The new cast members include Caitlin McGee (Home Economics, Bluff City Law) as Molly Evans and James Purefoy (Sex Education, Pennyworth) as Rick Eden.

In Mr. Monk’s Last Case: A Monk Movie, Monk returns to solve one last, very personal case involving his beloved stepdaughter Molly, a journalist preparing for her wedding.

The creator, writer and executive producer is Andy Breckman. David Hoberman executive produces and Randy Zisk is director and executive producer.

“It’s been twelve years since the world has seen a fresh installment of Monk. The world has changed mightily in those intervening years and Monk 2023 reflects the changing world,” said Breckman, Hoberman and Zisk.

“We’re so delighted to have made a movie version of Monk, and we are thrilled that every one of our stars were so enthusiastic about coming back. But in coming back, we wanted to do a film that was worthy of our legacy.”

They continued: “Mr. Monk’s Last Case is a story that is powerful, emotional, funny, heartwarming, and has something to say about the human condition. And it will be both familiar and surprising.”

With a runtime of 90 minutes, Mr. Monk’s Last Case: A Monk Movie comes from UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group.
