Mindy Kaling Joins Running Point Season 3 Cast
Netflix has announced that Mindy Kaling, writer and executive producer of the hit comedy series Running Point, has joined the cast of Season 3 in a recurring role. Production on the third season is underway in Los Angeles.
Mindy Kaling (Never Have I Ever, The Mindy Project) will play Divya, the outspoken, confident CEO of a popular gambling app. Much like Isla (Kate Hudson), she’s proudly the first woman to lead in her male-dominated field. Their similarities end there, with Divya becoming a thorn in Isla’s plans all season.

Kate Hudson will direct the season’s first episode, marking her television directorial debut. Hudson first stepped behind the camera with the 2007 short film, Cutlass, which she wrote and directed as part of Glamour Magazine’s “Reel Moments” series.
Cutlass, which featured Kristen Stewart, Dakota Fanning, Chevy Chase, and Kurt Russell, was nominated for Best Narrative Short at the 2009 Tribeca Film Festival.

The Running Point Season 3 regular cast will include Kate Hudson, Drew Tarver, Scott MacArthur, Brenda Song, Fabrizio Guido, Chet Hanks, Toby Sandeman, and Justin Theroux. In addition to Mindy Kaling, the recurring cast members also include Ray Romano, Uche Agada, Ken Marino, and Jay Ellis.
Running Point Season 1 debuted in February 2025; it reached #1 on the Global Top 10 and ranked in the Top 10 in 89 countries, landing among Netflix’s top 15 shows in H1 2025. Season 2 reached the Top 10 in 82 countries and brought Season 1 back onto the chart, amassing over 75M views across both seasons.

In the second season, Isla Gordon (Kate Hudson) is no longer the surprise choice to lead the Los Angeles Waves; she’s the one everyone is watching. With the franchise finally rebounding after last year’s scandal, Isla is determined to prove she’s not just keeping her brother Cam’s seat warm (Justin Theroux).
What she doesn’t know is that Cam is quietly maneuvering behind the scenes to reclaim his post, turning every misstep into ammunition. As she tries to balance the pressure of running a franchise with time for her personal life, every decision, on and off the court, counts.

To survive the family power plays and the board’s scrutiny, she’ll have to rip up last season’s game plan and come up with a whole new playbook if she wants to close out the season on top.
From executive producers Mindy Kaling, David Stassen and Ike Barinholtz, Running Point raises the stakes, deepens the family drama, and finds even more comedy in what it takes to run a modern sports empire. The series is produced by Mindy Kaling’s Kaling International in association with Warner Bros. Television.
