Lionsgate Releases Fan-Edit Trailer for The Hunger Games

Lionsgate has released an official fan-edit trailer for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping for New York Comic Con. Lionsgate says that the fan-created trailer embraces the distinct visual language, style, and technique fan editors have developed across social media.

For the first time in a major motion picture campaign for the studio, Lionsgate has entrusted a fan editor with debuting a never-before-seen clip from the film, giving Areq the opportunity to showcase exclusive material through his own creative lens.

The collaboration recognizes fan editing as an art form in its own right and celebrates the creativity, influence, and cultural impact of the online community that has championed The Hunger Games for more than a decade – inviting the fandom to not only celebrate the next era of the franchise, but help shape how it is introduced to the world.

The film, which opens in theaters and IMAX on November 20, has been rated PG-13 for strong violence, bloody images, disturbing material, some smoking, and teen drinking.

From acclaimed director Francis Lawrence, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping follows sixteen-year-old Haymitch Abernathy (Joseph Zada) from District 12, beginning on the morning of the reaping for the 50th Annual Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell, the biggest Games yet with twice as many tributes.

Set in the world of Panem 24 years before the events of The Hunger Games, the story follows Haymitch into the arena, where he forms an unlikely alliance with fellow tribute Maysilee Donner (Mckenna Grace) and joins a coalition determined to challenge the Capitol’s control under President Snow (Ralph Fiennes).

As the competition unfolds, Haymitch risks everything to take down the Games from within the arena — setting in motion the rebellion that will change Panem forever.

Based on Suzanne Collins’ best-selling novel, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping also stars Jesse Plemons, Glenn Close, Kieran Culkin, Elle Fanning, Maya Hawke, Whitney Peak, Kelvin Harrison Jr., and Ben Wang. Produced by Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, and Francis Lawrence. Screenplay by Billy Ray and Michael Lesslie.

Elle Fanning as Effie Trinket

Francis Lawrence has helmed four previous films in The Hunger Games franchise – every film since Catching Fire. Meredith Wieck and Scott O’Brien are overseeing the production on behalf of the studio. Patricia Laucella and Phil Strina oversaw the book’s rights for Lionsgate.

There are more than 100 million copies of all four books in The Hunger Games series in print and digital formats worldwide, and foreign publishing rights have been sold in 54 languages. Lionsgate has adapted these best-selling books into five feature films that have collectively grossed more than $3.3 billion worldwide.
