Netflix has released the official trailer for the comedy horror film It’s What’s Inside, which will start streaming globally on October 4, 2024. The film is rated R for pervasive language, sexual content, drug use, and some violent content.
In It’s What’s Inside, a group of friends gathers for a pre-wedding party that descends into an existential nightmare when an estranged friend arrives with a mysterious game that awakens long-hidden secrets, desires, and grudges.
Written and directed by Greg Jardin, the movie was produced by William Rosenfeld, Kate Andrews, Jason Baum, and Raúl Domingo. The executive producers include Colman Domingo, Ulf Ek, and Robert Kapp.
It’s What’s Inside stars Brittany O’Grady as Shelby, James Morosini as Cyrus, Alycia Debnam-Carey as Nikki, Devon Terrell as Reuben, Gavin Leatherwood as Dennis, Reina Hardesty as Brooke, Nina Bloomgarden as Maya, and David Thompson as Forbes.
“The central theme that I kept coming back to really revolves around artificial intimacy, that is, how we’ve all become reliant on screens for not only our self-worth, but for our general sense of how we connect with one another on a romantic level,” writer/director Greg Jardin told Entertainment Weekly.
“So, in this case, we focus on a relationship in crisis, where both members of the relationship have consumed such a high amount of online artifice, that they each have issues connecting with one another because their collective values have been so warped.”
“We never considered it horror,” Jardin told Oscar nominee Colman Domingo, who executive-produced alongside his creative partner and husband, Raúl Domingo. “I’d say it’s a sci-fi thriller with jokes,” Jardin continues.
“It’s about a bunch of friends [who] get together in a house. One of them brings up a body-swapping machine,” Jardin explains. “He suggests they play a game with it where they can all simultaneously swap bodies. Then the night devolves into existential chaos.”
