Inspector Ellis Season 2 Premiere Date and First Look

AMC Global Media’s Acorn TV today announced that Inspector Ellis Season 2 will premiere on Monday, July 6, 2026, in the U.S., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. The second season of the gripping crime drama consists of four episodes.

The riveting series stars three-time Olivier Award-winner and BAFTA Award-nominee Sharon D Clarke (Mr Loverman, Showtrial, Lost Boys & Fairies, Rocketman) as Detective Chief Inspector (DCI) Ellis, who along with her right-hand man Detective Sergeant (DS) Harper (Andrew Gower – The Winter King, Carnival Row, Outlander), fight a system rife with flaws while tackling failed investigations across the north of England.

Inspector Ellis Season 2 sees DCI Ellis (Clarke), who, together with her colleague DS Harper (Gower), faces a new wave of fractured communities and suspicious deaths that test not only her forensic brilliance but also her resilience.

This season takes them from a rural village, where the suspicious death of a beloved community leader exposes long-nursed resentments, to the industrial shadow of a stoneworks, where the death of a young woman reveals a hidden network of coercion and exploitation. Every case peels back layers of silence, ambition, and betrayal.

Inspector Ellis Season 2 also stars Charlotte McCurry (Say Nothing, Dalgliesh) as Detective Constable (DC) Kate Trent and Allison Harding (Malpractice, Dalgliesh) as Assistant Chief Constable (ACC) Alison Leighton.

From Company Pictures,in association with All3 Media International and Northern Ireland Screen, Inspector Ellis was created by Siân Ejiwunmi-Le Berre with Paul Logue.

The series is executive produced by Michele Buck, Ejiwunmi-Le Berre and Lucy Raffety for Company Pictures, Bea Tammer and Lesley Pemberton for Acorn Media Enterprises (AME), Sebastian Cardwell and Paul Testar for 5, as well as Louise Pedersen and David Swetman for All3 Media International.

Producer is Martin Mahon and co-producer is Ana Ture. Episodes 1 and 2 were written by Ejiwunmi-Le Berre and directed by Ed Bazalgette, while Episodes 3 and 4 were written by Ollie Frampton and directed by Max Myers. All3 Media International handles the international distribution.

When a university student is killed in a scaffolding accident, DCI Ellis and DS Harper take the case. Suspecting foul play, DCI Ellis digs into the victim’s final days, uncovering a secret that powerful figures will do anything to protect.

Episode 204 – “Elmsly: Part 2” – Premieres Monday, July 27 on Acorn TV
As new revelations send shockwaves through Elmsly, the detectives are drawn deeper into a web of hidden alliances and unsettling truths. But when a missing person is found battered, public pressure mounts, and DCI Ellis races to solve the case.
