First Look at the Sports Drama Unstoppable

Amazon MGM Studios has released a first look at the biographical sports drama Unstoppable, which will open in select US and UK theaters in December 2024.

The movie, which has been rated PG-13 for some strong language and thematic material, will have its world premiere at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival.

Unstoppable is an inspiring, true story about Anthony Robles (played by Jharrel Jerome), who defied every expectation to become a national wrestling champion.

This film marks William Goldenberg’s directorial debut. He is a decorated Academy Award-winning editor for Argo, with previous nominations for The Imitation Game, Zero Dark Thirty, Seabiscuit, and The Insider.

In the film, Anthony Robles, despite being born without a right leg, rises to become an NCAA Division 1 Champion wrestler, ultimately winning a national championship against the school that rejected him, national powerhouse Iowa. It is based on the book Unstoppable: From Underdog to Undefeated: How I Became a Champion by Anthony Robles and Austin Murphy.)

The film features an ensemble cast that includes Jharrel Jerome, Bobby Cannavale, Michael Peña, Don Cheadle, and Jennifer Lopez. Anthony Robles himself is seen in the film and credited as “Anthony Robles Double,” performing the complex wrestling moves and stunts. He is also a producer of the film.

Jharrel Jerome trained for months and worked very closely with Anthony to establish the physicality and determination required for the role.

Unstoppable is produced by Artists Equity, which is Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s production company. The movie employed Accessibility Coordinators from IndieVisible to ensure a safe working environment, including productivity tools for all cast and crew.

The movie was directed by William Goldenberg from a script by Eric Champnella, Alex Harris, and John Hindman. Ben Affleck, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, Anthony Robles, Andrew Fraser, Gary Lewis, and David Crockett are the producers.

The Anthony Robles and Austin Murphy book is officially described as follows: “Anthony Robles is a three-time all-American wrestler, the 2011 NCAA National Wrestling Champion, and a Nike-sponsored athlete. He was also born without his right leg.

“Doctors could not explain to his mother, Judy, what led to the birth defect, but at the age of five, the one-legged toddler scaled a fifty-foot pole unassisted. From that moment on, Judy knew that her son would be unstoppable.

“Anthony first began wrestling in high school; he was the smallest kid on the team and finished the year in last place. But he completed his junior and senior years with a 96–0 record to become a two-time Arizona State champion.

“In college, he faced personal hardships which almost forced him to drop out. But Anthony remained focused on his goals and won the NCAA National Championship in March 2011.

“Unstoppable is the story of one man whose spirit and unyielding resolve remind us all that we have the power to conquer adversity—in whatever form.”
