CD PROJEKT RED, the video game development studio known for its critically-acclaimed The Witcher series of games and the best-selling Cyberpunk 2077, has begun a collaboration with global media company Anonymous Content to develop a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action project.

While CD PROJEKT RED is not saying whether it will be a movie, TV series or even a web show, the Cyberpunk 2077 live-action project will be set in the world of the video game.

As part of the collaboration, CD PROJEKT RED is working directly with Anonymous Content Studios’ Head of Television Garret Kemble, Director of Development Ryan Schwartz, and Chief Creative Officer David Levine, an industry veteran who was previously HBO’s EVP and Co-Head of Drama for over 10 years, where he oversaw production of series such as True Detective, Westworld, and True Blood. The Cyberpunk 2077 live-action project is at an early development stage and has currently commenced searching for a screenwriter to tell a brand-new story set in the world of Cyberpunk 2077. Garrett Kemble, David Levine, Ryan Schwartz, and Bard Dorros will produce on behalf of Anonymous Content alongside Charlie Scully.

Anonymous Content’s AC Studios will serve as the studio on the project. The project will be developed in close collaboration with the Cyberpunk 2077 creative team.

CD PROJEKT RED has had previous successes in adapting the world of its best-selling video game for new mediums, including the critically-acclaimed Netflix anime series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, created in collaboration with Studio Trigger, which went on to win several major awards, including Anime of the Year from IGN and Crunchyroll.

In 2023, CD PROJEKT RED released the novel Cyberpunk 2077: NO_COINCIDENCE, written by best-selling sci-fi author Rafal Kosik, while the brand-new board game Gangs of Night City is currently in production by the board game publisher CMON.

Cyberpunk 2077 Live-Action

Cyberpunk 2077 is a narrative-driven, action-adventure role-playing game set in Night City, a California megalopolis controlled by Megacorps and plagued by crime and poverty. In the dystopian Cyberpunk society, the line between humanity and technology has become blurred, and people modify their body with advanced cyberware to survive.

The game follows V, a low-level mercenary hoping to make a name for themselves. After a heist gone wrong, a biochip containing the essence of dead rocker-turned-terrorist Johnny (played by Keanu Reeves) embeds in V’s mind, forcing V and Johnny to work together to remove the biochip before V ends up dead.

Players are faced with choices and consequences as they customize their character and playstyle, take on jobs, and build their reputation. The game has sold over 25 million copies and won over 200 awards.

The game’s spy-thriller expansion Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty premiered in September 2023 to critical acclaim. Cyberpunk 2077 is set in the universe of the classic pen & paper RPG system, Cyberpunk 2020.
