Focus Features has released the new trailer for its Conclave movie, an adaptation of the Robert Harris book opening in theaters on October 25. The movie is rated PG for thematic material and smoking.
From director Edward Berger (All Quiet on the Western Front), Conclave follows one of the world’s most secretive and ancient events – selecting a new Pope. Cardinal Lawrence (Ralph Fiennes) is tasked with running this covert process after the unexpected death of the beloved Pope.
Once the Catholic Church’s most powerful leaders have gathered from around the world and are locked together in the Vatican halls, Lawrence finds himself at the center of a conspiracy. He discovers a secret that could shake the very foundation of The Church.
The cast includes Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow, Lucian Msamati, Brían F. O’Byrne, Carlos Diehz, Merab Ninidze, and Thomas Loibl, with Sergio Castellitto and Isabella Rossellini.
The Conclave movie was directed by Edward Berger from a script by Peter Straughan. The novel is officially described as follows: “The pope is dead. Behind the locked doors of the Sistine Chapel, one hundred and eighteen cardinals from all over the globe will gather to cast their votes in the world’s most secretive election.
“They are holy men. But they are not immune to the human temptations of power and glory. And they are not above the tribalism and factionalism that consumes humanity. When all is said and done, one of them will become the most powerful spiritual figure on Earth.”
