Animal Farm: Trailer and Poster for the Andy Serkis Adaptation
Angel Studios has released the new trailer and poster for Animal Farm, the upcoming adaptation directed by Andy Serkis. Opening in theaters on May 1, 2026, the film has been rated PG for thematic elements, some action/violence, rude humor, and language.
Animal Farm traces how a movement for equality is systematically corrupted. As the pigs consolidate control, truth is erased, dissent is crushed, and the farm descends into a ruthless dictatorship—fulfilling George Orwell’s warning about the dangers of communism.

The Animal Farm voice cast includes Seth Rogen, Gaten Matarazzo, Steve Buscemi, Glenn Close, Laverne Cox, Kieran Culkin, Woody Harrelson, Jim Parsons, Andy Serkis, Kathleen Turner, and Iman Vellani.
With awareness of Orwell’s estate, the producers intentionally reimagined certain roles and character identities to broaden the film’s appeal to younger audiences while preserving the core values and cautionary power of the original story.

This fresh take on the classic story follows a group of animals who set out to build a better world, only to see their dream gradually shift as leadership and loyalty are tested. With visually striking animation and emotionally layered performances, the film introduces Orwell’s timeless tale to a new generation in a bold, cinematic way.
Andy Serkis explains, “We wanted to speak directly to an audience we recognize today. There was a fantastic, animated version of Animal Farm in 1954, but that was made for its time. This adaptation is about speaking in the common parlance and vernacular of now.

“That was reflected in the voice work — encouraging the cast to truly make the characters their own. We wanted it to feel contemporary and to genuinely connect with younger audiences by choosing a language they could relate to.”
While Orwell’s original characters are presented in new forms in this adaptation, the heroes retain the same defining qualities of honesty, hard work, and collaboration. At its heart, the story continues to ask the central question Orwell posed: why, after all these years, do humans keep making the same mistakes?

Why is it that once someone becomes a leader, they stop listening to ideas and healthy debate, becoming consumed instead by self-preservation and survival?
Angel Studios‘ Animal Farm was produced by Jonathan Cavendish and Adam Nagle. The executive producer is John Blas, the editor is Kevin Pavlovic, and the cinematographer is Olaf Skjenna.
