Why Ryan Gallagher Abruptly Left The Voice

The Voice returned for a night of incredible performances and revealed the Top 17 contestants for the live playoffs. But in a surprise announcement by host Carson Daly, one singer had to unexpectedly “exit the competition.”

Team Kelly’s Ryan Gallagher is no longer on the show and no explanation was given at the time of the shocking news. Many fans assumed the reason for the premature departure was family-related since Gallagher’s mother is battling COVID-19 and has been in ICU.

But, that isn’t the case. Monday night Gallagher wrote the following in an Instagram story and posted the Tweet below.

“Thank you everybody for your concern for my family. However everybody’s fine, that’s not the cause of what happened tonight on The Voice. I didn’t drop out of the show. Details are still to come, I’ll keep you posted.”

Vital Thrills reached out to NBC for comment about the situation and was told the network has tight COVID-19 protocols and the 31-year old from Michigan didn’t follow the guidelines.

“The Voice has strict COVID protocols in place to secure a safe set. Ryan broke those protocols, and out of an abundance of caution, we cannot have him continue in the competition and potentially put others at risk.”

No other details were given, but the show went on, and the Top 17 contestants were:

Team Blake

Ian Flanigan

Jim Ranger

Taryn Papa

Worth the Wait

Team Gwen

Ben Allen

Chloé Hogan

Carter Rubin

Payge Turner

Team Kelly

Desz

Madeline Consoer

Tanner Gomes

Joseph Soul

Team John

Tonight, the contestants will be cut down to just nine. The artists who receive the most votes will automatically be saved by viewers.

Then, each coach will have the opportunity to select a singer from their team to move forward. And finally, the artists from each team with the second-highest amount of votes will compete in the Wildcard Instant Save for the last spot in the Top 9.

The Voice airs Monday and Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
