The Mummy Sequel Starring Fraser and Weisz Set for 2028

Universal Pictures has announced that it will release the next installment in The Mummy franchise on Friday, May 19, 2028.

Academy Award winners Brendan Fraser (The Whale, Rental Family) and Rachel Weisz (Dead Ringers, The Favourite) are set to return to their iconic roles of Rick and Evelyn O’Connell for the next installment in The Mummy franchise for Universal Pictures.

Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett will direct the film. David Coggeshall (The Family Plan, Orphan: First Kill) wrote the film’s screenplay. Plot details are being kept under wraps.

Sean Daniel will produce the film. Daniel has a storied history with The Mummy franchise, producing The Mummy, The Mummy Returns, The Scorpion King, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, and The Mummy (2017) for Universal Pictures, which combined have grossed over $1.8 billion at the global box office.

William Sherak, James Vanderbilt, and Paul Neinstein will produce through Project X Entertainment. Fraser, Hivemind’s Jason F. Brown, and Denis Stewart will executive produce the film.

Faser and Weisz starred together in The Mummy (1999) and its sequel, The Mummy Returns (2001). While Fraser returned as Rick for The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008), the character of Evelyn was played by Mario Bello in that film.
