Slanted Trailer Featuring Shirley Chen and Mckenna Grace
Bleecker Street and Tideline Entertainment have released the official trailer for Slanted, the upcoming comedy-drama written and directed by Amy Wang. The movie has been rated R for language, some sexual material, teen drug use, and brief violent content/bloody images.
Slanted premiered at the 2025 SXSW Film & TV festival on March 8 as part of the Narrative Feature Competition. It is scheduled for release in the U.S. on March 13, 2026.

In the film, Joan Huang idolizes the popular girls and dreams of being prom queen, but fears the only way to win is to look like all the past queens whose portraits line her high school halls. Enter Ethnos: a mysterious cosmetic surgery clinic that makes people of color appear white.
Joan undergoes the procedure and wakes up a beautiful blonde destined for the crown, but at what cost?

Blending sharp satire, sci-fi, and body horror, Slanted stars Shirley Chen (Dìdi), Mckenna Grace (Regretting You), and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan (Never Have I Ever).
“As an immigrant, I’ve always been aware that I looked different,” said Wang in a statement. “As a teenager trying desperately to fit in, I used to wake up and wonder, wouldn’t life just be easier if I were white?”

Wang added, “Slanted is a satirical exploration of whiteness that challenges that question. It examines the cost of chasing acceptance and what it means to abandon yourself in the process. Is belonging worth losing who you are for a system that was never built to value you?”
The cast also includes Vivian Wu, Amelie Zilber, Fang Du, Elaine Hendrix, and R. Keith Harris. Slanted, which was filmed in Atlanta in Summer 2024, was produced by Trevor Wall, Adel “Future” Nur, Cameron Boling, Amy Wang, and Mark Ankner.
