Following its debut at the Midsummer Scream Festival today, Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures have brought online the first trailer for Saw X. You can watch the trailer using the player below.
The anticipated film features the return of John Kramer, also known as Jigsaw, as played by Tobin Bell. Saw X is scheduled to open in theaters on September 29, 2023.
The most chilling installment of the Saw franchise yet explores the untold chapter of Jigsaw’s most personal game. Set between the events of Saw I and Saw II, a sick and desperate John travels to Mexico for a risky and experimental medical procedure in hopes of a miracle cure for his cancer.
What he discovers, however, is that the entire operation is a scam to defraud the most vulnerable. Armed with a newfound purpose, John returns to his work, turning the tables on the con artists in his signature visceral way through a series of ingenious and terrifying traps.
Saw X is directed by Kevin Greutert from a script by Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg. The producers are Mark Burg and Oren Koules.
Franchise stalwart Greutert directed the highly-regarded Saw VI and Saw: The Final Chapter. He also edited Saw I through V and Jigsaw.
The movie, which started production November of 2022, features all-new twisted, ingenious traps and a new mystery to solve.
Saw franchise producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules prevously said: “We have been listening to what the fans have been asking for and are hard at work planning a movie that Saw aficionados and horror fans alike will love.
“And part of that is giving the reins to Kevin Greutert, director of Saw VI, which is still one of the fans’ favorites in the entire series.”
Regarding the return of Tobin Bell, Burg and Koules added: “What a thrill to be reuniting with Tobin. His performance as John Kramer is part of the magic that made this franchise a phenomenon and his character is an active part of this film.”
The return of Bell to the franchise furthers Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures‘ goal of a film that captures everything Saw fans love about the franchise.
The ninth installment of the franchise was Spiral: From the Book of Saw, which stars Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson. The movie opened in theaters in May of 2021 and grossed $40.6 million worldwide.
