Netflix has announced that production is now underway on Pride and Prejudice in the UK. Written by Dolly Alderton (Everything I Know About Love) and directed by Euros Lyn (Heartstopper), the series will be a faithful, classic adaptation of the novel.

Olivia Colman will play Mrs. Bennet, Rufus Sewell will star as the beloved Mr Bennet, and Jack Lowden portrays Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy. The Bennet sisterhood will include Emma Corrin as Elizabeth Bennet, Freya Mavor as Jane Bennet, Hopey Parish as Mary Bennet, Rhea Norwood as Lydia Bennet, and Hollie Avery as Catherine “Kitty” Bennet.

Louis Partridge will take on Mr Darcy’s nemesis, Mr Wickham, with Jamie Demetriou turning his hand to the pompous Mr Collins and Fiona Shaw as the fearsome Lady Catherine de Bourg.

The Pride and Prejudice cast also includes Daryl McCormack as Mr Bingley, Siena Kelly as Caroline Bingley, Anjana Vasan as Mrs Gardiner, Sebastian Armesto as Mr Gardiner, Rosie Cavaliero as Lady Lucas, and Saffron Coomber as Mrs Hurst.

The list continued with James Dryden as Mr Hurst, Justin Edwards as Sir William Lucas, James Northcote as Colonel Forster, Eloise Webb as Harriet Forster, and Isabella Sermon as Georgiana Darcy.

Speaking earlier in the year about the new series, writer and executive producer Dolly Alderton said: “Once in a generation, a group of people get to retell this wonderful story and I feel very lucky that I get to be a part of it. Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is the blueprint for romantic comedy – it has been a joy to delve back into its pages to find both familiar and fresh ways of bringing this beloved book to life.

“With Euros Lyn directing our stellar cast, I am so excited to reintroduce these hilarious and complicated characters to those who count Pride and Prejudice as their favourite book, and those who are yet to meet their Lizzie and Mr Darcy.”

Based on the novel by Jane Austin, the six-part limited series is executive-produced by Laura Lankester, Will Johnston, and Louise Mutter for Lookout Point, as well as Dolly Alderton and Euros Lyn.

Emma Corrin (Black Mirror) will also join as executive producer, marking their debut in the role. Lisa Osborne is the producer of the series.
