Netflix is taking you behind the scenes of the upcoming One Piece TV series with a new featurette that you can watch using the player below. The live-action series is launching on the streaming service on August 31.
The new video includes never-before-seen interviews with the cast and the creative team of the One Piece TV series discussing bringing Eiichiro Oda’s iconic manga to life in a new format, finding the perfect cast, the impressive stunt coordination and more.
Netflix previously announced a series of 10 fan celebrations taking place around the globe, including the US, France, Indonesia, Japan, Italy, Philippines, Thailand, Germany, Brazil, and Mexico. The events kick off on August 24 in Los Angeles at the Santa Monica Pier where attendees will have private access to rides and games at Pacific Park before a first look screening of episode 101. Starring Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji, One Piece is a pirate adventure created in partnership with Shueisha and produced by Tomorrow Studios and Netflix.
Matt Owens and Steven Maeda are writers, executive producers, and showrunners. Eiichiro Oda, Marty Adelstein, and Becky Clements also executive produce.
The additional cast includes Vincent Regan, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino, Morgan Davies, Aidan Scott, Langley Kirkwood, Jeff Ward, and Celeste Loots.
The cast of the Netflix show is rounded out by Alexander Maniatis, McKinley Belcher III, Craig Fairbrass, Steven Ward, Chioma Umeala, and Michael Dorman as Gold Roger.
Eiichiro Oda, the creator of the global phenomenon, wrote a letter this week to celebrate “One Piece Day.” Oda-Sensei shared his thoughts on the adaptation, production, changes from the manga, and the cast and crew (you can check out his full letter in the images below.
“I’ll say this. There were no compromises on this show!,” Oda said. “There was so much that went into it – all of the efforts by the actors, the building of the world and the costumes, presenting things in a way that can only be done in live action, the dialogue – and the entire process of so many people putting their heads together was a festivity in and of itself.”
Oda continued: “The producers and the crew are pros at live action, and frankly, they’re One Piece superfans too. By now I just love the production team and cast so much that I can’t wait for them to get the acclaim they deserve from everyone around the world.”
