New Song Sung Blue Trailer and Photos Debut
Focus Features has revealed the new trailer and photos for Song Sung Blue, the upcoming biographical musical drama film written, co-produced, and directed by Craig Brewer. The movie is scheduled to open in theaters on December 25, 2025.
The film has been rated PG-13 by the Motion Picture Association (MPA) for thematic material, some strong language, some sexual material, and brief drug use.

In Song Sung Blue, which is based on a true story, two down-on-their-luck musicians (Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson) form the joyous Neil Diamond tribute band, “Lightning & Thunder,” proving it’s never too late to find love and follow your dreams.
Song Sung Blue is based on the 2008 documentary of the same name, directed by Greg Kohs. John Davis and John Fox produced the film for Davis Entertainment, along with Craig Brewer. Erika Hampson and Greg Kohs serve as executive producers of the film.

The cast includes Hugh Jackman (Deadpool & Wolverine), Kate Hudson (Running Point), Michael Imperioli, Ella Anderson, King Princess, Mustafa Shakir, and Hudson Hensley, with Fisher Stevens and Jim Belushi.
Focus developed the project and holds worldwide rights to the film. Universal Pictures International is handling international distribution for the studio.

Principal photography began on October 14, 2024, in Monmouth County, New Jersey. Filming wrapped on December 11 of that year. Song Sung Blue had its world premiere at the 2025 AFI Film Festival on October 26, 2025.
When Mike Sardina (Jackman) meets Claire Stengl (Hudson), he’s a small-time musician on the gigging circuit. A recovering alcoholic and Vietnam vet, Mike moonlights as a mechanic to support what he really loves most: to play music and perform, no matter how big the crowd, no matter how empty the dive bar.

When he sees Claire up on stage in her Patsy Cline act, he spots the same passion in her, and they discover a cosmic kinship that begins a love story found both on and off a shared stage.
From writer and director Craig Brewer comes a sweeping epic about the profound romantic and creative partnership between two down-on-their-luck musicians who prove that it’s never too late to find love and chase your dreams.
Based on a true story, Song Sung Blue follows Mike and Claire as they become Lightning and Thunder, a joyous Neil Diamond tribute band that takes them from a small garage to dive bar glory to an unlikely Milwaukee stardom defined by their moving devotion to one another and the raucous power of “Sweet Caroline.”
But when tragedy strikes and plunges them to the bottom, it’s the revelatory power of their love — for music and for each other — that binds the pair, provides a way forward, and ultimately helps them remember one another.
