Magic City Docuseries Announced by STARZ
STARZ announced today that Magic City: An American Fantasy, an immersive five-part docuseries that brings viewers inside the famed Atlanta club and features an oral history from the A-listers who made it legendary, will premiere Friday, August 15.
STARZ also unveiled a video teaser and first-look photos, offering a glimpse at the club’s founder, Michael “Mr. Magic” Barney, as well as executive producers and hip-hop legends Jermaine Dupri and Drake, while also highlighting the alluring and feminine power of Magic City’s dancers.

New episodes of Magic City: An American Fantasy will be available to stream weekly on Fridays on the STARZ app and all STARZ streaming and on-demand platforms.
Magic City: An American Fantasy is a riveting docuseries that takes viewers on a wild and unexpected ride detailing the legendary club’s storied history as a cultural hub in Atlanta. Having evolved into the definitive king-maker in the hip-hop community, the club caters to high-profile celebrities such as 2 Chainz, Nelly, Shaquille O’Neal, Quavo, Killer Mike, and Big Boi, all of whom share their firsthand Magic City experiences in exclusive interviews.

Additionally, the docuseries offers a powerful platform for the lives of the many women who work there and are responsible for building the club’s mystique.
Magic City has held a special place in Black culture for nearly 40 years. It was the well-known hangout of notorious drug gang B.M.F. and the site of a widely viewed get-out-the-vote announcement by former Georgia Governor Stacey Abrams in 2020. Many of today’s hip-hop superstars even credit the DJs at Magic City for their success.

Although the club continues to serve as a meeting place where the worlds of politics, music, and sports coverage intersect, the true story of its rise to fame has long remained a mystery–until now.
On linear, Magic City: An American Fantasy will debut on August 15 at 10:00 pm ET/PT on STARZ in the U.S., immediately following the season finale of BMF. Remaining episodes will air weekly on Fridays at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT. In Canada, the premiere airs at 11:00 p.m. ET/PT on August 15, with subsequent episodes airing Fridays at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT.

The documentary series initially premiered to acclaim in 2024 at the SXSW festival. The series is created and executive-produced by Cole Brown. Drake’s DreamCrew Entertainment, Jermaine Dupri, and Jami Gertz serve as executive producers.
The series is directed by Charles Todd (Buddy Guy: The Blues Chase The Blues Away, Latin Grammy-nominated Romeo Santos: King of Bachata) and produced by Scheme Engine – a BIPOC-owned studio with a strong focus on women and minority representation – with showrunner and executive producer Bayan Joonam, executive producers Devin Amar and Alex Kaplan, and producers Ashley Brooke and Marlowe Blue.
