Prime Video has revealed the trailer, launch date, and key art for its first Irish Original comedy series, LOL: Last One Laughing Ireland. The series will launch globally on January 19, 2024.
The series will feature some of Ireland’s biggest and best comedic talent, including Aisling Bea, Amy Huberman, Catherine Bohart, David McSavage, Deirdre O’Kane, Emma Doran, Jason Byrne, Martin Angolo, Paul Tylak, and Tony Cantwell.
Using his trademark wit, host Graham Norton will oversee the ten comedic stars, brought together to make each other laugh by using every unpredictable comedic tool in the box… without cracking a smile themselves.
With the added bonus of some celebrity cameos, their performances will have viewers — but hopefully not their fellow stars — laughing out loud.
As the clock counts down and the tension rises, whoever can outlast their competitors will be crowned the first winner of LOL: Last One Laughing Ireland and win a grand prize of €50,000 for their charity of choice.
The trailer provides an insight into some of the crazy antics that the comedians do to make others laugh, with Graham Norton explaining the rules of the game. New cameos were also revealed, with Zig, Zag and Ray D’Arcy who make up The Den; the long-running Irish children’s television show. RTÉ journalist Anne Doyle and the singing duo Jedward will also try to make the comedians laugh.
The LOL: Last One Laughing format has become the most-watched title of all time on Prime Video in Italy, France, and Germany and has had hugely successful local versions in Mexico, Australia, India, Spain, Canada, The Netherlands, Colombia, Argentina, Brazil, and Sweden.
Other local celebrity hosts include Jay Baruchel (Canada), Eugenio Derbez (Mexico), Fedez (Italy), Michael “Bully” Herbig (Germany), and Rebel Wilson (Australia). Prime Video recently announced LOL: Last One Laughing South Africa will be its first South African Original, hosted by Trevor Noah.
LOL: Last One Laughing Ireland is the latest adaptation of the successful Prime Video series in Japan, Documental, created by and starring Hitoshi Matsumoto and owned by Yoshimoto Kogyo, where Matsumoto leads ten comedians in an anything-goes “battle of laughter behind closed doors.”
