Josephine Teaser with Channing Tatum and Gemma Chan
Sumerian Pictures has released the teaser trailer for Josephine, the two-time Sundance Award-winning film (U.S. Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award) opening in theaters this fall.
The critically acclaimed film will open in select theaters on November 20, 2026, and nationwide on December 4. The movie stars Channing Tatum, Gemma Chan, and breakout actor Mason Reeves.

Based on writer/director/producer Beth de Araújo’s own lived experiences, the film Josephine follows the psychological fallout after eight-year-old Josephine (Reeves) witnesses a crime in Golden Gate Park.
As she acts out, her parents (Tatum and Chan) struggle to help their daughter cope while facing their own fears about the topic and how to address it with their child.

The dramatic feature has received early acclaim for its lead performances across the board and the singular filmmaking achievement from writer, director, and producer Beth de Araújo’s sophomore feature, and is Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.
The film has been rated R for rape, graphic nudity, some language, and sexual content

Josephine joins Sumerian Pictures’ growing slate of major filmmaking achievements like Mile End Kicks, The Incomer, and more. The distributor acquired the film’s U.S. rights shortly after its Sundance debut, further investing in its theatrical and award-season success.
The movie is produced by David Kaplan, Josh Peters, Beth de Araújo, Marina Stabile, Channing Tatum, Gemma Chan, Mark H. Rapaport, and Crystine Zhang. Emanuel Nuñez and Jordan Rapaport are the executive producers.

Founded by Ash Avildsen, Sumerian is an artists-led independent creative studio celebrating 20 years of making music as Sumerian Records.
The company more recently expanded into film distribution (Sumerian Pictures) and published media and graphic novels under the Sumerian Comics banner.
