I Play Rocky Trailer with Anthony Ippolito as Stallone

I Play Rocky is an electrifying true story about an unknown actor with an unshakable belief that he wasn’t just meant to write Rocky—he was meant to be Rocky Balboa.

Told “no” at every turn, Sylvester Stallone bets everything on himself, holding the line on playing the lead against seemingly impossible odds. The result is the ultimate underdog story behind the ultimate underdog movie.

Directed by Academy Award-winning Peter Farrelly (Green Book, There’s Something About Mary) and written by Peter Gamble, the film stars Anthony Ippolito, Matt Dillon, AnnaSophia Robb, P.J. Byrne, Toby Kebbell, Tracy Letts, Jay Duplass, Stephan James, and Kiki Seto.

The producers include Christian Baha, Toby Emmerich, Paul Currie, and Peter Farrelly.

The original Rocky movie is also lacing up for its 50th anniversary from November 7-11 with Rocky 50, remastered in 4K from Amazon MGM Studios, Park Circus, and Fathom Entertainment.

Starring three-time Academy Award nominee Sylvester Stallone, Rocky received ten Academy Award nominations and won three, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Film Editing.

In 2006, the Library of Congress selected Rocky for preservation in the United States National Film Registry for being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”

Along with a special, new anniversary logo, Rocky 50 will also feature an exclusive look at I Play Rocky, alongside an introduction from the I Play Rocky cast.

Rocky 50

In Rocky, Rocky Balboa (Stallone) is a struggling Philadelphia boxer who is scorned by his gym’s owner, patronized by a loan shark, and rebuffed by a shy ‘plain-Jane’ (Talia Shire), whose butcher brother keeps engineering a romantic match.

Rocky would have remained in this rut had not heavyweight champion Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers) come up with the Bicentennial gimmick to give a chance for a ‘nobody’ to become a ‘somebody’. The “Italian Stallion” trains earnestly and goes the distance…against all odds!

The film was directed by Academy Award winner John G. Avildsen from a screenplay and story by Stallone. The film is produced by Academy Award winners Irwin Winkler and Robert Chartoff of Charloff-Winkler Productions and stars Stallone, Shire, Weathers, Academy Award nominee Burt Young, Tony Burton, and Academy Award nominee Burgess Meredith.
