Written and directed by Shana Feste (The Greatest, Country Strong, You’re Not You, Endless Love, Boundaries, Run Sweetheart Run), the film will begin streaming on Netflix on November 13, 2026. It has been rated R for language, some violence, and brief sexual content.

In Heartland, former country legend Misty Jones emerges from seclusion to investigate the disappearance of her niece, a rising country musician, and must grapple with her own past and Nashville’s seedy underbelly. Her search uncovers a murky side of Nashville where no one, including Misty, is who they seem.

Produced by Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, Randall Poster, and Jason Owen, the movie also stars Hill Harper, Norbert Leo Butz, Wynn Everett, Isabelle Kusman, and David Rysdahl. Tracey Cook and Jeff Valeri are the executive producers.

“Misty could be incredibly tender, and then five minutes later, shoot someone’s windows out,” says Jessica Chastain (upcoming Other Mommy) about her character. “So, she’s not interested in being liked. And I love women like that on screen because I don’t think we get to see them that often.

“Underneath the noir and the mystery, Shana was making a film about women reclaiming authorship of their own lives.”

Shana Feste added, “I wanted to create something truthful that’s also incredibly fun to watch. Something that has elements of suspense and country music and a really rootable character that doesn’t feel familiar.

“I thought, ‘Okay, what if I write this really complicated, messy, badass woman, Misty, and I set her in this world of country music. And instead of doing a drama like Country Strong, I lean into the film noir and create a mystery?'”

I’m all emotions and I will go with you on any journey as long as it’s a feeling one. And country music also does that – unapologetically,” says Feste.

“Country Music is about telling a story. It’s about someone leaving you, someone dying, they’re drinking too much, wanting someone that you shouldn’t want… Apparently I just really like women with big hair and complicated lives,” adds Chastain. Said Nettles, “A story of thwarting a system of good ole boys who are covering up dark secrets, AND set to a soundtrack of country music? Sign me up!”

Heartland (Soundtrack from the Netflix Film) features original performances by the film’s cast, including Academy Award winner Jessica Chastain, three-time Grammy winner Jennifer Nettles, Ross Lynch, and CMA nominee Carter Faith, alongside Margo Price, Carly Pearce, Eddy Dunlap, Channing Wilson, and Dave “Fergie” Ferguson.

Set against the raw reality of Nashville, the album sets country’s mistakes, temptations and betrayals to song, led by the title track from Chastain and Nettles. The soundtrack arrives November 13 on all streaming services.
