Following a first look at Kristen Wiig’s Cheetah and the Golden Warrior Armor, Entertainment Weekly has also published new Wonder Woman 1984 photos. You can view the Wonder Woman 1984 photos below and you’ll find previously-released images and posters in the gallery as well.
Fast forward to the 1980s as Wonder Woman’s next big screen adventure finds her facing all-new foes. She is now working at the Natural History Museum in Washington, D.C., and lives quietly, still mourning the loves she’s left behind.
“She has not only had the loss of [Chris Pine’s] Steve Trevor,” explains producer Charles Roven to EW. “She’s lost nearly all the people that are important to her because they’re not immortal, and her life is actually quite lonely and spartan. In fact, the only joy that she gets out of it is when she’s actually doing something for people, if she can help those in need.”
Director Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 1984 stars Gal Gadot in the title role, alongside Chris Pine as Steve Trevor, Kristen Wiig as Super-Villain The Cheetah, Pedro Pascal as Max Lord, Robin Wright as Antiope and Connie Nielsen as Hippolyta.
EW says Maxwell Lord is “a self-made mogul-slash-guru played as a sort of insidious mix of ’80s icons both fictional (Gordon Gekko) and real (Tony Robbins).”
Wiig plays Barbara Minerva, “a shy, socially awkward gemologist played with stumbling-foal charm and a frizzled perm by Kristen Wiig.” They add that “the comic-book faithful will know what’s coming: a transformation that turns a rare friend into one of Wonder Woman’s most formidable nemeses.”
Jenkins directs from a screenplay she wrote with Geoff Johns and Dave Callaham, story by Jenkins and Johns.
Charles Roven, Deborah Snyder, Zack Snyder, Patty Jenkins, Gal Gadot and Stephen Jones are producing the film. Rebecca Steel Roven Oakley, Richard Suckle, Marianne Jenkins, Geoff Johns, Walter Hamada, Chantal Nong Vo and Wesley Coller are the executive producers.
The film is based on characters from DC. Wonder Woman was created by William Moulton Marston.
Joining Jenkins behind the scenes are several members of her Wonder Woman team, including director of photography Matthew Jensen, Oscar-nominated production designer Aline Bonetto (Amélie), and Oscar-winning costume designer Lindy Hemming (Topsy-Turvy). Oscar-nominated editor Richard Pearson (United 93) is cutting the film.
Production took place in Washington, D.C., Alexandria, Virginia, and in the UK, Spain and the Canary Islands.
Warner Bros. Pictures presents an Atlas Entertainment/Stone Quarry Production, a Patty Jenkins Film, Wonder Woman 1984. The film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures on June 5, 2020.
