Netflix today announced that a We Can Be Heroes sequel is in development! The streaming service revealed that 44 million households are projected to watch the first movie its first four weeks.

“44 million families will have suited up for We Can Be Heroes in its first 4 weeks,” writer and director Robert Rodriguez said on Twitter. “And… BREAKING NEWS: The Heroics are coming back for round two! I’m in full development of the sequel with Netflix!”
The first movie was released on January 1, 2021. In the film, when alien invaders kidnap Earth’s superheroes, their children must team up and learn to work together if they want to save their parents and the world.

Sharkboy and Lavagirl from Rodriguez’s The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3-D return in We Can Be Heroes. The 2005 movie featured Taylor Lautner as Sharkboy and Taylor Dooley as Lavagirl.
The film grossed $72 million at the worldwide box office. Dooley returned for We Can Be Heroes but Lautner did not reprise the role.

The We Can Be Heroes cast also includes Christian Slater (Mr. Robot, The Wife), YaYa Gosselin (FBI Most Wanted, The Purge), Akira Akbar (Captain Marvel, This Is Us), Andrew Diaz, Andy Walken (The Kids Are Alright, A Christmas Story Live!), and Boyd Holbrook (Logan).
Also starring are Hala Finley (Man with a Plan, Backroads) Isaiah Russell-Bailey (Family Reunion, SWAT), Lotus Blossom (Magic Max), Lyon Daniels (Patriot), and Nathan Blair (Best. Worst. Weekend. Ever.).

Sung Kang (Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift, Better Luck Tomorrow), Vivien Lyra Blair (Bird Box, Waco), Adriana Barraza (Dora and the Lost City of Gold, Babel, Cake, Penny Dreadful) and Christopher McDonald (Mr. Iglesias, Wetlands) appear as well.
The cast is rounded out by Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian, Narcos, Wonder Woman 1984), and Priyanka Chopra-Jonas (Isn’t It Romantic, Baywatch).

Rodriguez, who is also producing, has previous experience with the action-adventure drama. He directed, wrote, and produced Spy Kids, which went on to become a major movie franchise.
In addition to The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl, Rodriguez’s credits also include Desperado, From Dusk Till Dawn, Sin City, Machete, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, and Alita: Battle Angel.
