Coffee Stain Publishing, the team behind Deep Rock Galactic and Goat Simulator, and Iron Gate Studio, have announced that co-op adventure Valheim launches on Steam Early Access on February 2nd.

Valheim is an open-world exploration survival game set in a vast procedurally-generated purgatory inspired by norse mythology and viking culture.
Players are tasked with taking back the realm from the ancient enemies of Odin, building mead halls and castles, crafting weapons and armour, and sailing the seas in search of new horizons.

Valheim is a huge procedurally-generated world, inviting players to explore lush forests, snow-topped mountain ranges and mystical meadows, all presented in striking Lo-Fi graphics. Valheim offers a dodge & block based combat system with a wide range of weapons for deathless vikings to battle primordial bosses of myth and legend.
The viking adventure is playable solo, or with up to nine friends as no one wants to repeatedly face death alone. Between deaths, Valheim offers a flexible house and base building system, intuitive item crafting and ship building, and dedicated servers.

“Valheim is really tough. You will die, a lot. Your friends will die, a lot. But we hope we’ve managed to strike that balance between being needlessly brutal, and offering a rewarding and challenging experience,” said Richard Svensson, CEO, Iron Gate Studio.
“The world we’ve created is huge and varied, and there’s room for so much more. We’re happy to welcome new players to our community and work together during Early Access.”

“Whilst in beta, Valheim has already started to build a loyal and engaged community which is important for us as a publisher,” said Albert Säfström, CEO, Coffee Stain Publishing.
“Exploring the world of Valheim feels like being outside, rather than being in a virtual world. When many of us are stuck inside, meeting people virtually, this is such a breath of fresh air, and exactly what we need right now.”

Coffee Stain is a game development studio, publisher and investor with offices in Skövde, Stockholm, and Gothenburg. Founded in 2010, Coffee Stain Studios is responsible for ridiculous global sensation Goat Simulator, the Sanctum games, and the otherworldly factory builder Satisfactory, currently in Early Access.
Coffee Stain Publishing was founded in 2017 to find talented developers and give them the tools and time to make their dream games. Since launch, the publishing arm has handpicked a select number of projects to partner with and in 2020 launched Deep Rock Galactic, which sold over a million copies in Early Access, and retro action comedy arcade platformer Huntdown.

Iron Gate is a new studio founded by industry veterans, having worked on games such as Magicka 2, Leviathan: Warships, and the Titan Quest series.
Headquartered in Skövde, Sweden, the team has a track record for developing immersive worlds steeped in norse mythology.
