Uncharted Release Date Pushed Back to March 2021

-

Sony Pictures has pushed back the Uncharted release date and made a few other changes to its upcoming schedule. The studio has announced a new film as well.

Going by order or release, we’ll begin with the newly-revealed Man From Toronto, which is coming to theaters this Thanksgiving, on November 20, 2020. The action comedy comes from Escape Artists and stars Kevin Hart and Jason Statham.

Just five days later, on November 25, we’ll get to see director Clea DuVall’s Happiest Season, starring Kristen Stewart, Mackenzie Davis, Mary Steenburgen, Victor Garber, Alison Brie, Aubrey Plaza, Dan Levy, Ana Gasteyer, Burl Moseley, Sarayu Blue, Jake McDorman, and DuVall’s writing partner on the film, Mary Holland.

Previously scheduled for November 20, the romantic comedy captures the story of a young woman (Stewart) whose plan to propose to her girlfriend (Davis) while at her family’s annual holiday party is upended when she discovers her partner hasn’t yet come out to her conservative parents (Steenburgen and Garber).

Next up, Kevin Hart also stars in Sony’s Fatherhood, which has been moved back seven days to January 15, 2021. Directed by Paul Weitz, the movie co-stars Alfre Woodard and is an adaptation of the Matt Logelin memoir Two Kisses For Maddy: A Memoir of Loss & Love.

The Uncharted release date was previously set for December 18, 2020 but has now been pushed back to March 5, 2021. The video game adaptation just lost director Travis Knight, although Ruben Fleischer is said to be atop the list of directors that Sony is looking at.

Tom Holland will play Nathan “Nate” Drake in Uncharted and Mark Wahlberg is set to play Victor “Sully” Sullivan. Sully is an American treasure hunter as well as an old friend and mentor at one point of Drake.

The project will become the first feature production of Sony PlayStation Productions. Headed by Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan, PlayStation Productions has come on to produce alongside Chuck Roven, Avi Arad, Alex Gartner, and Ari Arad. Qizilbash and Swan will serve as executive producers. Art Marcum & Matt Holloway (Iron Man and Men in Black: International) and Rafe Judkins wrote the script.

Based on the Naughty Dog video games for PlayStation consoles, the film is said to take its basis from the sequence in Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception in which the young Nathan “Nate” Drake (Holland) encounters his partner Victor Sullivan for the first time.

And Sony and Mattel Films’ Masters of the Universe, which was previously scheduled for Uncharted‘s March 5, 2021 date, has now been taken off of the studio’s release schedule.

Noah Centineo was set to play He-Man, with Aaron and Adam Nee directing from a script by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway. The script was previously written by David S. Goyer, who is also an executive producer.

Masters of the Universe is produced by Escape Artists’ Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch, along with DeVon Franklin. Mattel’s Julia Pistor and David Voss will executive produce.
