Uncharted Film Loses Director Dan Trachtenberg

-

Tom Holland is not having a good week. First came the news that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige will no longer be involved with future Spider-Man movies, essentially taking Spidey out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and now comes word that Sony Pictures’ Uncharted film has lost yet another director.

According to Deadline, Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane) has exited the Uncharted film, which has previously had directors such as David O. Russell, Seth Gordon and Shawn Levy attached as well. Holland remains attached to star in the adaptation of the PlayStation video games.

The site adds that the studio is moving quickly to bring on a replacement for Trachtenberg and that the new filmmaker should be in place by the end of summer so that production can begin early next year.

Uncharted will become the first feature production of Sony PlayStation Productions, which was set up on the Sony lot last year. Headed by Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan, PlayStation Productions has come on to produce alongside Chuck Roven, Avi Arad, Alex Gartner, and Ari Arad.

Based on the Naughty Dog video games for PlayStation consoles, the film is said to take its basis from the sequence in Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception in which the young Nathan “Nate” Drake (Holland) encounters his partner Victor Sullivan for the first time.

The movie, written by Art Marcum & Matt Holloway and Rafe Judkins, was previously set for a December 18, 2020 release.

There have been four Uncharted games from Naughty Dog and publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment, including Uncharted (2007), Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (2009), Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception (2011), and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End (2016). A standalone game, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, was also released in 2017 and featured the characters Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross.
