Toy Story 4 Box Office Crosses the $1 Billion Mark

With an estimated $1,001.7 million worldwide through August 14, Pixar’s Toy Story 4 box office crossed the $1 billion mark yesterday. Joining Incredibles 2, Finding Dory, and Toy Story 3, it is the fourth Pixar film and second Toy Story film to reach this milestone. It is The Walt Disney Studios’ fifth billion dollar release this year and also the eighth biggest animated movie of all time.

With an A CinemaScore and an exceptional 97% Fresh critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, Toy Story 4 made its domestic debut on June 20 with $120.9 million, one of the biggest openings ever for an animated film. It has earned $421.8 million domestically to date to stand as the No. 5 animated film ever.

Internationally, it has earned $579.9 million with debuts still to come in Germany and across Scandinavia. It’s the No. 2 animated release of all time in the UK with $75 million. In Japan, Toy Story 4 is enjoying strong midweeks due to the Obon holiday with a current total of $77 million. In Mexico, Toy Story 4 is the biggest industry film in admissions with a sum of $72 million.

In the sequel, Woody (voice of Tom Hanks) has always been confident about his place in the world, and that his priority is taking care of his kid, whether that’s Andy or Bonnie. So when Bonnie’s beloved new craft-project-turned-toy, Forky (voice of Tony Hale), declares himself as “trash” and not a toy, Woody takes it upon himself to show Forky why he should embrace being a toy.

But when Bonnie takes the whole gang on her family’s road trip excursion, Woody ends up on an unexpected detour that includes a reunion with his long-lost friend Bo Peep (voice of Annie Potts). After years of being on her own, Bo’s adventurous spirit and life on the road belie her delicate porcelain exterior. As Woody and Bo realize they’re worlds apart when it comes to life as a toy, they soon come to find that’s the least of their worries.

Disney•Pixar’s Toy Story 4 was directed by Josh Cooley (Riley’s First Date?) and produced by Jonas Rivera (Inside Out, Up) and Mark Nielsen (associate producer Inside Out). The Toy Story 4 characters are voiced by Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Annie Potts, Don Rickles, Estelle Harris, Wallace Shawn, John Ratzenberger, Jeff Pidgeon, Blake Clark, Tony Hale, Keegan-Michael Key, Jordan Peele, and Keanu Reeves.
