Top Gun: Maverick has cast a slew of actors to play students in flight school, according to Deadline. The new cast members in the upcoming film include Thomasin McKenzie (the upcoming Taika Waititi-directed film Jojo Rabbit, The True History of the Kelly Gang), Charles Parnell (A Million Little Pieces), Jay Ellis (Insecure), Bashir Salahuddin (GLOW, Snatched), Danny Ramirez (Assassination Nation, On My Block), and Monica Barbaro (The Good Cop, Splitting Up Together).
Tom Cruise will again headline the Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions film as rogue fighter pilot Maverick. Miles Teller (Only the Brave, Whiplash) landed the role of Goose’s (Anthony Edwards) son in the sequel, while Jennifer Connelly (upcoming Alita: Battle Angel, Only the Brave, A Beautiful Mind) is playing a single mother who runs a local bar near the Navy base. Val Kilmer (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, The Doors, The Salton Sea) is expected to return as Maverick’s former nemesis Tom “Iceman” Kazansky as well.
McKenzie will play the daughter of Jennifer Connelly’s character. Ramirez, Barbaro and Ellis will all play pilots, Parnell will play an admiral, and Salahuddin will play an engineer.
Tom Cruise will be reteaming with his Oblivion director Joseph Kosinski (TRON: Legacy, Only the Brave) for the film, which will be produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Cruise, and Skydance’s David Ellison. The script was written by Peter Craig, Justin Marks and Eric Warren Singer. Top Gun: Maverick is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 12, 2019.
